Thank you for all of the work you did to stay active and engaged in our community this year. You’ve supported the Campaign for Ohio and Democratic candidates in countless ways, and your tireless efforts made a difference in Upper Arlington. Let’s take a moment to recap some of the ways volunteers engaged with our community this year.
Redistricting Reform
Whether you collected signatures for the Ohio Fair Districts petition, helped with office work, handed out flyers, delivered signs, wrote letters, or provided testimony, your work helped pass meaningful congressional redistricting reform in Ohio.
District 24 Candidate Forum
Andrea Bonny, Allison Russo, and Mary B. Relotto
In March, Organizing4UA hosted a candidate forum for the 3 Democratic candidates for Ohio House District 24. We owe a huge thank you to Andrea Bonny, Mary B. Relotto, and Allison Russo for stepping up to run in our district! Congratulations to all of the candidates for their well-run, issue-focused campaigns!
Ohio District 12 Special Election
Many of you stepped up to help Danny O’Connor in the August Special Election. Thanks to those who canvassed, made phone calls, or wrote postcards.
Volunteering for Candidates
There are so many ways that you helped campaigns this election season. Many volunteered for the Campaign for Ohio, calling voters and volunteers, knocking on doors, or writing postcards for Democratic candidates up and down the ticket.
Organizing4UA team members Stephanie and Debbie volunteered to host the Campaign for Ohio canvasses every Saturday. Raise your hand if you loved the addition of MiniVAN to our set of canvassing tools!
Many of you also volunteered to help elect Allison Russo and Rick Neal. Sunday canvasses hosted by Organizing4UA members Jack and Stephanie were always full of energetic volunteers.
Connect with the Campaigns
A special thanks to Stephanie and Debbie for organizing our biweekly Connect with the Campaigns events every second Thursday evening. We got to meet with candidates, campaign staff, or surrogates from the campaigns of Sherrod Brown, Michael Stinziano, Richard Cordray, Zack Space, Michael Donnelly, Melody Stewart, Rick Neal, Allison Russo, Marilyn Brown, and Steve Dettelbach.
Get Out the Vote
A huge thanks to Wanda for volunteering to host the Campaign for Ohio Get Out the Vote canvasses and phone banks at her house! GOTV was fast, furious, and fun, thanks to the many volunteers.
Although the statewide results were disappointing, it’s helpful to examine the local results to see the full effect of your actions. For example, all Democrats running for statewide office received more votes than their Republican opponents in Upper Arlington. Sherrod Brown won in all Upper Arlington wards. Rick Neal received more votes than incumbent Representative Steve Stivers in Upper Arlington. Over the next few months, let’s all dive in to the official results and learn what we can for 2020!
Thank you, and best wishes for a happy and progressive new year!
